So, we made it. We have moved to Panama, all of our luggage arrived, and most importantly, our dog Jebo was here and he seemed great.
We know the cost of living in Panama is significantly lower than that in Canada, especially our province of BC. But in the quiet moments after our arrival here, I started to add up all the little costs we incurred just to make this move and tally up what it actually amounted to.
So here it goes in Can$, I hope I don't forget anything;
For Jebo -
Veterinary "Fit to Fly" Health Certificate
including extra vaccine and flea and tick meds... ...$280
Travel Crate, XL... ...$316
Canada Food Inspection Agency certification... ...$ 25
Flight, (checked baggage fee)... ...$270
Payment to Ministry of Ag @ PTY... ...$ 21
Home Quarantine Fee @PTY... ...$175
Total... ...$1,187
Document Collection for Residency
Birth Certificate ($70 x 2)... ...$140
New Marriage Certificate.... ...$ 34
Criminal Record check + 8 passport Photos... ...$185
Notary for Passport & DL & Marriage Cert... ...$135
Ontario Document Services, Seal... ...$ 96
Consul General of Panama, doc. authent.... ...$421
Total... ...$1,011
Flights from Toronto to Panama City (2 Adult)... ...$816
Porters at Tocumen airport ($20 x 2) ...$ 50
Transport to Coronado(Extra time / baggage) ...$200
Total... ...$1,066
So that is the tally so far, on the documents we would need to get us, and our dog to Panama and get our residency in process once we arrived.
We will update the tally with the cost of residency application, drivers licence etc. once we get all of that going.
Great info, thanks Doug!
